The High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter took the photo from a distance of about 3,600 miles. The larger of Mars' two, relatively tiny moons, Phobos, is closer to the surface of Mars.
